Various precipitation accessories are available to simplify the installation, operation and maintenance of Belfort precipitation gauges.

The Alter-type windshield is built according to National Weather Service specifications, and is used to reduce wind induced errors in precipitation measurements. Windy conditions in the vicinity of precipitation gauges can cause eddies within the windflow which generally reduce catch. Proper gauge location and the use of the Alter shield dramatically reduce this effect. The Anchor Base provides a convenient way of mounting the Model 5915, 5-780, and 6071 precipitation gauges. The gauges are fastened to the base (which is permanently mounted at the site) using three mounting bolts. Gauge maintenance is simplified by permitting easy removal from the mounting for both servicing and calibration. The base also prevents direct contact between the instrument and the ground. To extend the capacity of the 5915, and 5-780 precipitation gauges, different collectors are available which reduce the orifice area. Capacity can be increased by factors of two or four. Calibration weight sets are available for all Belfort weighing gauges. See the chart below for the proper set for each gauge.
